original language: german & english
A sonic comic in the course of the exhibition „Ich und Fische“ (Sebastian Franz) initiiated by Lieberwolf e.V.
With narration and electronic sound art from Anne Altmeyer and graphical live illustrations from Cathérine Lehnerer the performance ‘Klopfzeichen des Widerstands’ (‘Knocking Codes of Resistance’) tells the story of two female resistance fighters from Nuremberg – Kunigunde Schwab and Hilde Gerber – during the NS-Regime.
Both were part of the Communist Party, which was prohibited since 1933. Altough they were befriended they acted separately in the underground resistance movement, but their paths crossed several times. Kuni and Hilde were engaged in publishing pamphlets and they met each other in the prison in Nuremberg and Aichach. In solitary confinement they communicated via knocking codes, where they played chess together until they were discovered. While Kuni was released in 1934, Hilde was thereupon imprisoned in the women’s concentration camp in Moringen until 1937. The two women kept beeing politically engaged after their imprisonment and were part of the peace movement of the post-WWII-era. This work was performed in the event of the upcoming International Women’s Day on the following day. It shall not only remind us on the terrors of a totalitarian regime, but also tell a story of disobedience, confidence and empowerment.
